Skills competitions 

Alongside numerous national skills competitions, the international EuroSkills and WorldSkills competitions are held alternatingly every two years. Following intensive preparation, young people have the opportunity to test their abilities and skills against other participants in such competitions.

EuroSkills

The 2nd European vocational skills competition ‘EuroSkills’ took place in Lisbon/Portugal from 9 to 11 December 2010.  Austria was represented by 30 young professionals aged 18 to 25 years in 26 occupations and earned 15 individual medals (ten gold, four silver, one bronze) and four team medals (two gold and two silver) and seven other awards ("medallion for Excellence ").

WorldSkills

WorldSkills International is an international vocational skills competition held every two years. WorldSkills International is a non-profit organisation founded in 1953 and headquartered in the Netherlands. Austrian teams have participated in WorldSkills competitions 26 times since 1961 with many excellent results. Austria's 419 participants so far were awarded a total of 170 medals and 136 special awards.

The 41st WorldSkills Championships will be held from 5 to 8 October 2011 in the cosmopolitan city of London. Venue of the competitions will be the "ExCeL London," an international exhibition and convention center in the Docklands area of London close to downtown.

The Austrian participants have in the Austrian national championships in the period March 2010 to February 2011 showed their skills and thus qualified for WorldSkills London 2011th. Thus, 28 young professionals in 26 professions (including two team professionals) will participate in London.
