Research & Innovation
The competitiveness of Austrian companies, and consequently their employment potential, is a key issue both in Austria and the whole of Europe. It is largely dependent on the quality of activities in the fields of research, technological development and innovation.
The BMWFJ therefore considers it important to promote investment in research, development and innovation and to create appropriate conditions for strengthening Austrian companies (particularly small and medium-sized enterprises).
To this end, a selected range of programmes, initiatives and networks is available.
- 2.79 % Austrian gross expenditure on R&D in 2011
- 1.508 EU research projects with Austrian partners as part of the Seventh Framework Programm
- 5 th place in terms of R&D spending within the EU
