Support for Austrian families takes place via compensation for the burden of having a family: spreading the costs of raising a family more equally among the tax-paying population - this is the area of family policy which deals with the economic support of families according to family-related criteria.

The Ministry of Economy, Family and Youth, Department for General Family Policy Affairs, has a wide range of instruments at its disposal for the implementation of family policy objectives. This includes among other things the support of plans which are relevant to family policy, have nationwide significance or are innovative pilot projects.
