Mining safety
As mineral resources are extracted, the working environment in a mine is constantly changing. Far from being a static process, mining is by definition a dynamic process that is continually moving forwards within the earth’s crust.

Mining engineering and mining safety play an important role in a system that involves nature, human activity and machinery. Both form the basis for carrying out mining activities without incident and for managing the mine as a system in itself.
Mining safety comprises all the measures aimed at preventing or mitigating the risks involved in mining:
- Protection against death, injury and illness
- Protection of the ecological environment (soil, vegetation, animal life, atmosphere, bodies of water, use of the surface area)
- Protection against intolerable nuisances (noise, dust, odours, vibrations)
- Protection of third-party property and of mineral deposits
