Holidays in Austria - Information and booking

Tourism and Historic Objects

The department for tourism and historic objects consists of a section dealing with tourism and leisure industry and a section responsible for the historic buildings under state ownership.

Our tourism staff members deal with the strategic orientation of the national tourism policy, elaborating and implementing strategic plans and innovative tourism scenarios (including studies and statistics). They also represent Austria in international organizations and in the European Union. Another important task is strategic use of budget funds to support activities in the tourism and leisure industry.

Our Tourism Service is not only the central contact point for business partners and for tourists, above all it functions as a co-ordination and information platform for the tourism industry and it co-ordinates PR-activities for tourism on the federal basis and special projects. Important partners are i.a. the Austrian National Tourist Office, The Austrian Economic Chamber, the Austrian Hotel and Tourism Bank, etc.

Our staff members responsible for federal building construction are entrusted with project and construction planning, consultation, the supervision and administration of premises and estates, and also selected historic objects. They advise fellow staff members and the public in matters of contract awarding (other than legal matters), deal with housing construction research and building statistics, and also constructions accessible for people with disabilities, and they furnish expertises for the housing construction funds. Another task is the implementation of the Housing Construction Promotion Contribution Act and the Federal Special Housing Construction Act and matters arising in the administration of the housing construction funds.

In addition, general legal matters and contract matters are dealt with, including consultation in legal matters.

The department acts as owner-representative for Schönbrunn Zoo GmbH, SSKB (Schloss Schönbrunn Kultur und Betriebsgesellschaft m.b.H.), and BIG (Bundesimmobiliengesellschaft).
